Apple Tree Plastic Table Cloth Mat

Here is something different!
Below are several options for using the Apple Tree Floor Mat.
It is suggested to have a partner to help you when making this.
Purchase a piece of heavy weight clear plastic that is 40 inches by 52 inches.
It is available at Wal-Mart in the sewing section.  If you can't find it, you could substitute a clear plastic shower curtain or possible a clear plastic drop cloth.  Purchase green, red and brown duct tape.  These are available
at Wal-mart in the paint section.
Take the red tape and secure it down around the edges.  Take a piece of brown duct tape that is 14" long and place in in the middle on the bottom approximately 3" up from the red edge.  Put a 8" brown piece of duct tape approximately 20 inches up to make the top piece of the tree trunk.  Now rip
two 20" brown pieces and place them so that they make a side outline
connecting  the top part of the tree trunk to the bottom.  Now rip pieces
and put them in place to fill in the tree trunk area.
To make the tree top outline rip green duct tape and arrange it as
shown in the photo.
Then rip more pieces of duct tape to fill in the section.

You can use the mat for a graphing activity.

You can use the mat for a game by having the children throw
bean bag apples onto the tree.

If you were working on name recognition, you could make a yogurt lid apple craft for each child in your room.  The leaf would have a picture of the child along with the  correct spelling of their name.  Have the children choose an apple, identify the child and then spell their  name with the letters.  This activity is especially good for tactile
children and for children who are visually impaired.

If you want to you could also make the yogurt lid apples only put
numbers on the apples instead of pictures.  Have the children pick an apple
then spell the number word.  If you have children who are just learning
to spell the number words, you could write the number word on the leaf
of the apple.  This would be a great activity for the book Chicka, Chicka, 1-2-3.
For younger children simply have them put the number apples in numeric order.
