Patterning for Old Lady Leaves

This activity would work great as a circle time
activity working with a
group or it would make a good activity for children to program their
own strips to show their patterning abilities.
Print the pieces of your choice. Cut apart and color if
you choose.
The black and white strips would need to be programmed into an
pattern.
If you are using this as a circle time activity you will want to
laminate
your pieces.
ONLY CUT THE LEFT EDGE OF THE BOX WITH THE DOTTED LINE.
Feed the strip through the hole leaving the first left for the
children
to see. Point out the color of the leaf. Pull out the
strip to reveal
the next leaf. Point out the color of that leaf.
Continuing pulling out
the strip and discussing the pattern that appears. When you
get to
the question mark, have the children predict what color they
think the next leaf will be.
Children can make their own using the black and white version,
coloring the leaves to make a pattern. It would be fun to have
them "test" their pattern with a friend.
