Where the Sidewalk Ends



Read some poems for Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein.  Later
 give children a piece of gray construction paper and chalk.  Have them
design a page as they would a piece of sidewalk.  When they are done
lightly spray aerosol hair spray over the design so the chalk doesn't
brush off.  Once everyone has their piece of sidewalk finished,
display the pieces together making a sidewalk.
If you are practicing handwriting, have the children copy their favorite poem
on a paper and display it under their section of sidewalk.
